Deal of the Week: Lupita Nyong’o X Michael Kors’ Watch Hunger Stop

Earlier this month, award-winning actress Lupita Nyong’o joined Michael Kors’ Watch Hunger Stop initiative, a global philanthropic campaign aimed at combatting hunger. Watch Hunger Stop was founded by Michael Kors in 2013 and has achieved success in the 7 years that have followed.


The new partnership has been activated through Lupita Nyong’o’s social media, namely her Instagram which has over 8.2 million followers. In addition, Lupita and Michael Kors have been pushing a product line called “Love,” that includes t-shirts and totes whose entire proceeds go towards the United Nations World Food Programme’s (WFP) school meals program. Lupita has served as the top model for the initiative, appearing in pictures and videos to promote the cause. Lupita also joined Michael Kors speaking at the United Nations today, October 21st, promoting Watch Hunger Stop.

In the short time since the partnership was announced, Lupita and Watch Hunger Stop have achieved great success. Sometimes the greatest partnerships are the ones that are formed organically. That is what occurred in this instance as Lupita Nyong’o is a well known philanthropist involved with many charitable organizations. By partnering with her, Michael Kors and Watch Hunger Stop have been able to tap into the audience that follows Lupita and admires her for her philanthropic work. The partnership has been so successful that a social media campaign has started, #WatchHungerStop, where people have shared their “Love” apparel and promoted the cause. This partnership has quickly been proven as a successful marriage between Watch Hunger Stop and Lupita Nyong’o as more people have become aware of the cause and issue it deals with, while Lupita has fortified her reputation as a celebrity who cares and added another brand to her professional portfolio.
