InStyle released their Badass 50 List for 2020, filled with the most empowering, bold and “badass” women from entertainment to politics. These women have tackled adversity in stride and have accomplished countless feats over the past year, enough to cement their place among the most fierce women around.

1. Nancy Pelosi (#1)

Looking for badass? Go no further than current Speaker of the House, Nancy Pelosi. Garnering major publicity over the course of 2019 throughout the impeachment trial of Donald Trump, Pelosi established herself as a force to be reckoned with. Capping off the State of the Union Address by ripping Trump’s address right in half was just the start of the many badass moments for Pelosi. Being the highest ranking female in politics and ranking number one on InStyle’s list gives Pelosi a great power and she’s using it to empower countless other to embrace adversity with the same zeal that she does.
2. Dakota Johnson (#2)
Actress Dakota Johnston comes in at #2 on InStyle’s list as well as ours after a busy 2019. Johnson has used her influencer to help empower individuals to speak out about harassment and abuse, even going so far as releasing her public phone number to do so. After compiling countless stories of abuse, Johnson created a podcast to share the stories. Working with her own production company, TeaTime Pictures, she started The Left Ear podcast, sharing these stories and empowering women to make a positive change in their lives by speaking out and seeking justice.
3. Allyson Felix (#4)

Number 4 on the list of Badass women comes athlete Allyson Felix. The track and field star broke Usain Bolt’s record for most Gold Medals at the World Championships, inspiring females around the world to reach for the skies when it comes to what they can accomplish. Felix also became a major player in the endorsement space, kicking off a partnership with GAP, as well as redefining partnerships with NIKE and women, changing the way they structure deals with women who are athletes and moms.
4. Diana Nyad (#5)

Famous athlete and speaker Diana Nyad continues to defy the odds, and be, well, badass. Since becoming the first person to swim from Cuba to Florida at the age of 64, Nyad has been an influential and motivational figure. Since her amazing feat Nyad has graced the TED stage and been instrumental in fueling the Me Too Movement. Next up for the trending figure is her EverWalk tour, in which she will urge 1 million people to participate in a walk from Miami to D.C. in support of helping clean the ocean through single use plastics.
5. Hoda Kotb (#9)

Hoda Kotb, half of the dynamic duo of Today, alongside Savannah Guthrie, also featured on InStyle’s list, helped make history alongside her co-host by becoming the first ever female co-hosts in the show’s history. Outside of being a role model for countless women, she recently became mother to another little girl, whom she also adopted named Hope.
6. Melina Matsoukas (#13)

Director and producer Melina Matsoukas has worked with many other badass women including Rihanna and Beyonce, and continues to make a name for herself as she adds more and more influential projects to her resume. Matsoukas’ most recent film Queen and Slim was met with critical acclaim for its portrayal of social issues including police brutality. With the success of her debut feature, the two-time Grammy winner is ready for the next step in her career, and garnering plenty of attention, coming in at #13 on InStyle’s list and Time’s 100 Next List for 2019 as well.
7. Billie Eilish (#27)

Billie Eilish has taken the music and pop culture industries by storm. At just 18 years old, Eilish has become one of the most well known entertainers in the world. With her unique voice and signature colored hair, Eilish is primed to be one of the top artists of her generation. Performing at the Oscars among many other appearances, Eilish took home 6 Grammys as well, becoming the first 2000s talent to hit Number 1 on the Billboard charts, the first of many first spots to come.
8. Kelly Clarkson (#34)

The American Idol winner has been a popstar for a long time, but the trending celeb has many new opportunities on the horizon for the 2020s. As a symbol of female empowerment, Clarkson recently created a new channel to share her inspirations. The Kelly Clarkson Show on NBC aired in September of last year, and was recently picked up for a second season with a Las Vegas studio.
9. Sharon Stone (#41)

Stone has been an icon among women for decades. As we enter the 2o20s that won’t change. The 61 year old actress who doesn’t look a day over 50 is still entertaining her many fans with new content, appearing in HBO series The New Pope last year, is set to appear in the star studded new series on Netflix, Ratched, as well as a new movie in 2020 titled, What about Love. Outside of her career on the screen, Stone is focusing on social justice as well, working with the United Nations to build refugee camps and schools.
10. Kacey Musgraves (#44)

2019 was the year of Kacey Musgraves, as she hauled in 4 Grammy awards among many other accolades. Alongside fellow record breaker Billie Eilish, Musgraves represents the music industry of the future, bringing some country flair to juxtapose Eilish’s pop swagger. At the end of last year Musgraves starred in The Kacey Musgraves Christmas Show, produced by Amazon Prime Video, who will likely utilize the star for many projects in the future. At just 31, she is primed to make many badass lists in the future, and caps off a list of many empowering women who are just getting started.
